A beloved Oceanside institution is turning the page — and writing a vibrant new chapter. After nearly 30 years as one of North County’s go-to coffee shop, Jitters Coffee Pub has officially reopened with a fresh look, a bold new menu, and an exciting creative partnership: Grammy Award-winning musician Jason Mraz has joined forces with chef Felix Alcaide of One Kitchen Collaborative to help shape the next era of Jitters.
“This isn’t just a facelift—it’s a homecoming,” says longtime owner Vallie Gilley, who’s been at the helm for over two decades. “We’re building on decades of memories while creating something that speaks to where Oceanside is going.”
A Place with Soul
Since first opening in the ‘90s, Jitters has been more than a place for coffee. It’s been a third space—part clubhouse, part creative hub—where locals caught up over cappuccinos, musicians played in the corners, and the pulse of the community was always brewing.
Jason Mraz knows that magic well. The Oceanside local has long been a fan and frequenter of Jitters, sometimes showing up to test out unreleased songs in front of unsuspecting customers.
“A coffee shop is like a clubhouse, a third space that’s neither home nor office, and I’ve always admired the warmth that Jitters offers this town. When the chance came to help revitalize it, I knew I had to jump in.” – Jason Mraz
What’s New?
Following renovations that wrapped in late April, Jitters is back with a lighter, brighter aesthetic — and a plant-forward menu designed by chef Felix Alcaide. Expect seasonal toasts topped with locally grown avocados, falafel burgers, and a creative mix of global flavors and health-conscious bites. Local sourcing is central to the ethos, with many ingredients coming from nearby farms — including Mraz’s own Oceanside farm, which also produces avocados, passion fruit, and coffee beans.
Coffee lovers can still count on the classics, alongside some updated offerings that reflect the shop’s modern refresh.
Community Events Are Brewing
The transformation is more than aesthetic. Jitters is rolling out an expanded calendar of events and experiences, from Taco Tuesdays to live music, comedy nights, DJ sets, and creative workshops.
A full-circle celebration is planned for July 12, when Jitters will host its official Grand Opening Summer Bash—a day-long celebration of food, music, and community spirit.
