North County is about to get a splash of color: On Thursday, September 19, from 4:30 to 5:30 North City in San Marcos will unveil Ginkgo, a stunning new mural by internationally acclaimed artist Victoria Fu.
Known for her contributions to iconic institutions like the Whitney Museum, LACMA, and MCASD, Victoria Fu, k brings her world-class talent home to San Diego. As a professor at the University of San Diego, Fu’s ties to the area make this mural a meaningful addition to North City’s ever-expanding public art program. Ginkgo will become part of North City’s growing collection of murals and sculptures, adding a new layer to the neighborhood’s creative landscape.
At the unveiling, attendees will hear from some of North City’s key figures, including representatives from Sea Breeze Properties, curator DVDL, San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones, and Victoria Fu herself, who will share insights into the inspiration behind Ginkgo.
But this event is more than just a mural unveiling. It’s a celebration of North County’s blossoming art scene. After the event, attendees can peruse a vibrant mix of places to eat, drink, and shop — including local favorites like Buona Forchetta for Italian eats, Draft Republic for craft beers and bites, and sweet treats at Wynston’s Ice Cream or Maya’s Cookies.
