The Mexican restaurant Cocina Barrio has opened its third location and first in North County. The establishment has relocated into the 3,611 square-foot corner restaurant location in the Lumberyard Shopping Center, formerly occupied by the Lumberyard Tavern & Grill.
Cocina De Barrio offers an array of Oaxacan-style Mexican meals, such as Braised Short Ribs in a classic Mole Negro sauce.
Some of the traditional Mexican food on their menu are the Huevos Rancheros (crispy corn tortillas with beans, lamb birria, guajillo sauce, fried eggs, and more), Tlayuda (thin crunchy tortilla, Oaxaca cheese, chorizo Istmento, cilantro, and refried beans), and chicken tinga quesadillas (hand-pressed masa quesadillas, chipotle stewed chicken, beans, fresh cheese, avocado salsa, fried eggs, cottage cheese, and potatoes).
The restaurant’s cocktail menu is also worth a try. They have El Pionero– mezcal mixed with pineapple juice, fresh-squeezed lime juice, and grenadine. The El Zapoteco combines mezcal and tequila with grapefruit juice, lime juice, and cinnamon syrup.
Cocina de Barrio is open for brunch from 9 AM to 3 PM from Monday to Saturday and until 4 PM on Sundays. Dinner service is from 4 PM to 10 PM, Monday to Saturday. Weekday happy hour starts at 3 PM and ends at 5 PM, Monday to Friday.
