Summer might be winding down, but things are about to heat up at Gelson’s Market in La Costa. The much-anticipated Hatch Chile Roasting event is back on Saturday, September 7, starting bright and early at 7 a.m.
For the uninitiated, Hatch Chiles are more than just a pepper. These prized green gems hail from New Mexico’s Hatch Valley and are celebrated for their unique combination of heat and sweetness, adding a bold, smoky flavor to everything from salads to stews. When roasted, they take on a rich, savory character.

This year, Gelson’s Kitchen has upped the ante, offering a delectable lineup of Hatch Chile-infused dishes that cater to every spice level—whether you’re a mild-mannered spice seeker or an extra-hot heat enthusiast. Gelsons will offer Hatch Chile Super Lump Crab Cakes, Hatch Egg Salad, Hatch Chile Grilled Corn & Heirloom Tomato Salad, and even a creamy Hatch Mac & Cheese. There’s also Hatch Chicken Sausage with Onions and Peppers, Hatch Chicken and Cheese Quesadillas, and Hatch Chile Turkey Meatballs.
For all the spicy details, head over to Gelson’s Hatch Chile event page. Don’t miss out on one of the tastiest traditions of the year!
