If you’ve ever wished Lunar New Year celebrations lasted longer than a single evening, 24 Suns in Oceanside just granted that wish. From February 17 through March 3, the fine-dining Chinese restaurant is transforming the holiday into a 15-day culinary festival rooted in tradition, symbolism, and storytelling — making it one of the most immersive Lunar New Year experiences currently happening in North County San Diego.
Rather than a one-night special menu, 24 Suns is honoring the holiday the way it’s traditionally celebrated: across multiple days, each with its own cultural significance. This year marks the Year of the Fire Horse, symbolizing vitality, momentum, and renewal — themes that show up throughout the experience in both subtle and dramatic ways.
Every day of the festival highlights a different tradition or ritual, allowing guests to return throughout the celebration and experience something new each time. It’s not just dinner — it’s a narrative unfolding over two weeks.

At the center of the experience is a thoughtfully designed seven-course Lunar New Year tasting menu — with seven chosen intentionally as an auspicious number associated with harmony and good fortune. Each course carries symbolic meaning tied to prosperity, longevity, abundance, or balance, making the meal feel both celebratory and ceremonial.
For those who prefer flexibility, there’s also an à la carte menu featuring dishes inspired by traditional Lunar New Year flavors and customs. One standout? A dramatic 18-foot longevity noodle designed for sharing — a playful but meaningful nod to wishes for long life.
And for cocktail lovers, there’s a hidden-gem feature at the bar: the Red Lantern cocktail, available only to guests who solve a lantern riddle, a classic Lunar New Year tradition woven cleverly into the dining experience.
Throughout the festival, select days spotlight specific traditions:
Part of what makes this experience stand out is the atmosphere. During the festival, the restaurant itself evolves — layered with red accents, glowing lanterns, and theatrical touches that still maintain the warmth of a neighborhood dining room. It feels festive without feeling staged, immersive without feeling overwhelming.

For those new to 24 Suns, the concept is as compelling as the event itself. Founded by fine-dining-trained chefs Nic Webber and Jacob Jordan, the restaurant began as intimate dumpling gatherings before evolving into pop-ups across San Diego and, in 2024, a permanent Oceanside home.
Their culinary philosophy blends traditional Chinese techniques with Southern California’s micro-seasonal ingredients, resulting in menus that change frequently and reflect the rhythms of land and season. Alongside their tasting menus, the restaurant offers fine wine, sake, and a hospitality style that feels polished but genuinely welcoming.
North County’s food scene has grown rapidly in recent years, but immersive, culturally rooted dining experiences like this are still rare. What 24 Suns has created isn’t just a themed menu — it’s a full sensory celebration that invites guests to learn, taste, and participate in Lunar New Year traditions in a meaningful way.
Whether you’re looking for a memorable date night, a special group dinner, or simply an excuse to experience something new, this limited-time festival is worth planning around.
