The recreation buildings at Washington Park in Escondido currently boast four newly-finished murals on their walls. The project started in 2019 through the efforts of the city, the Escondido Union High School District, and the Public Arts Commission.
In the latest phase, it was the turn of the students at Del Lago Academy to adorn the park walls. Ava Manoochehri Farr, a junior at the school, painted something as an homage to the women’s rights movement in Iran led by Mahsa Amini. Farr is Iranian, and the movement meant something personal to her.
Katelyn Guardado, another student at the academy, made a colorful, purple-shaded, fun-looking horse that greets the park visitors.
