Baja meets the Mediterranean at Solana Beach’s newest coastal dining destination.

There’s something new happening along Highway 101 — and it smells like citrus, spice, and the sea. Mia’s, opening in just weeks (late October is the target), brings bold Baja-Mediterranean flavors to Solana Beach in a newly reimagined space that feels as effortless as a coastal evening breeze.

From the local restaurateurs behind Blue Water Grill Restaurants, Rick Staunton and Jimmy Ulcickas, Mia’s celebrates the bright, sun-soaked flavors of Baja California and the rustic warmth of the Mediterranean — two coasts united by fresh seafood, fire-roasted meats, and a love for slow, social dining.

Flavor That Travels

Mia’s menu is all about culinary storytelling: a journey from Baja’s beaches to the Mediterranean coast, where every dish bursts with color, spice, and freshness.

Start with the Hibiscus Hamachi Crudo — delicate hamachi kissed with hibiscus ponzu, charred pineapple, serrano, and avocado — or the Volcano Tostada, piled high with carne asada, chorizo, refried beans, and queso Chihuahua. Other highlights include Papás & Mole Negro, a crispy potato pavé with Oaxacan mole and chicken chicharrón, plus entrées like Seared Bluefin Tuna, Ancho-Rubbed Skirt Steak, and Organic Aleppo Chicken with roasted pistachio dukkah.

Every plate is crafted with fresh, sustainable ingredients and a seed-oil-free philosophy, with plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian options woven throughout.

A Bar Program with Soul

The cocktail list follows the same compass — Baja to the Med — featuring bright, inventive drinks alongside a deep list of tequila, mezcal, and aged rum from the owners’ own Catalina Rum Company. Local craft beers and a global wine list round out a bar program made for slow sipping and easy conversation.

The Space: Baja Calm, Coastal Cool

Designed by PGAL, the former Alce 101 space has been transformed into something fresh yet familiar. Picture warm woods, textured neutrals, open air, and ocean light — a modern-Baja aesthetic that’s both laid-back and elevated. It’s the kind of spot that works just as well for ceviche and cocktails as it does for a long, leisurely dinner with friends.

The Meaning Behind The Name

Every great restaurant has a story, and Mia’s begins with one very good girl. Rescued from San José del Cabo, Mia is the Baja-born pup who inspired not just the name, but the spirit of the restaurant itself. Her easygoing nature and coastal roots echo throughout the space, from subtle mural cameos to small design details that pay homage to her story. The same Baja warmth she embodies comes through in the food — fresh, soulful, and full of heart.

Where Food and Community Meet

Beyond the menu, Mia’s aims to become a neighborhood gathering place — a hub for flavor, connection, and conversation. Expect rotating chef dinners, mezcal and wine tastings, and seasonal events that bring the Solana Beach community together.
