The city of Encinitas has given the green light to transform Captain Keno’s restaurant property for mixed-use development. The said property will be used to establish commercial spaces and condominium units, as the city’s Planning Commission agreed upon.
Captain Keno’s Restaurant has been an Encinitas landmark for over 50 years. The establishment was famous for its affordable eats, including 12-dollar prime ribs, 22-dollar crab legs, burgers, omelets, baked potatoes, steamed vegetables, and more. For many residents, though, Keno’s was more than just an eatery; it was a community hub.
The restaurant was owned by Gerry Sova in 1970 and sold the property to Adam Robinson and the RAF Pacifica Group. Three lavish, two-story buildings will rise in its stead, including 45 condominium units and 16 commercial spaces.
