Always Hungry Grocery & Goods has officially opened its doors at a new location in the heart of Carlsbad Village. This thoughtfully curated neighborhood grocery store offers far more than pantry staples — it’s a place for discovering exceptional products made by passionate small-batch makers, local farmers, and underrepresented artisans.
Founded by hospitality veteran Katie Jayne, Always Hungry operates by a set of intentional guidelines: every item on the shelf must be local, mission-driven, best in its category, or simply fun. The result is a collection of goods that are as unique as they are high quality — from tinned fish and naturally leavened sourdough to Korean BBQ salmon chips, probiotic sheep’s milk labneh, and organic halva made with tahini and puffed quinoa.
The store also prioritizes sourcing from nearby farms, including Cardiff Tiny Farm, which contributes fresh produce grown using regenerative farming practices.

Don’t miss out on their Disco Boxes, either — a limited-run assortment of curated favorites and fresh finds, designed to showcase the kind of products Always Hungry is all about. A recent edition included sparkling prebiotic beverages from Leisure Project, adaptogenic cacao from MUD\WTR, handmade Danish licorice from Lakrids by Bülow, and small-batch candy, dips, snacks, and even dill picked fresh from the owner’s home garden.
In addition to groceries, Always Hungry is a space for community. Jayne has plans to host local events such as sourdough starter workshops, oyster shucking classes, and family-friendly tastings — all designed to bring people together around a shared love of good food and the people who make it.
This is also the perfect place to pick up a thoughtful gift for the food lovers in your life — with many items made by women-owned or minority-owned businesses that are not widely available elsewhere.
Always Hungry is located at 505 Oak Avenue, Suite B, just a short walk from the beach. The shop is closed Mondays and open Tuesday through Sunday. Whether you’re stocking up for the week or popping in for a last-minute hostess gift, this independent grocer offers an experience rooted in curiosity, community, and conscious consumption.
