LUCIEN Brings Intimate, Ingredient-Driven Fine Dining to La Jolla

Tucked away on a quiet stretch of Girard Avenue, LUCIEN is set to become La Jolla’s most intimate new dining destination. With just 30 seats and a menu that reads like a love letter to California, LUCIEN opens its doors on July 18, 2025 — and promises a refined, seasonal experience rooted in craftsmanship and care.

The vision comes from Chef Elijah Arizmendi, whose pedigree includes time in the kitchens of Michelin-starred greats like Per Se, Robuchon, and Restaurant Daniel. At LUCIEN, Arizmendi trades New York’s high temples of gastronomy for something more personal: a space where California’s local farms, fishermen, and micro-seasons take center stage.

The restaurant will offer a multi-course tasting menu (expect 10+ courses), each dish designed to spotlight the finest ingredients of the moment — artfully prepared, thoughtfully restrained. Diners can expect coastal whitefish caught from San Diego fisherman, berries from the legendary Chino Farms, and vegetables that never travel farther than they need to. It’s a menu that evolves with the land and sea, one fleeting season at a time.

“Ingredient-driven” is more than a buzzword here — it’s a guiding philosophy. LUCIEN is precise, intentional, and full of quiet reverence for its source material. When the restaurant opens mid-summer, the menu will reflect the bold, sun-soaked peak of the season.

RENDERINGS VIA TECTURE

Beyond the dining room, guests will also find a separate, standalone bar — just a few steps (and a calamansi tree) away. The bar, like the restaurant, embraces a no-shortcuts approach: cocktails will highlight local spirits and seasonal produce, with the same respect for balance and detail that drives the kitchen. No reservation is required for the bar; walk-ins are welcome.

LUCIEN is more than a restaurant: it’s a quiet, confident debut for a chef whose attention to detail meets a deep love for California’s culinary landscape.

Reservations for LUCIEN’s opening are now live on OpenTable.
